RIP KDoe, RIP Special One (Conscious Daughters), DLabrie, GZA/Genius (Wu Tang), CMG (Conscious Daughters) Backstage @ Rock the Bells 2007 in S.F
Special One is a underground rap legend. Along with CMG she not only inspired many with her raw music & flow, created a Hip Hop anthem (one of my favorites to date) but together they were also early trailblazers for woman empowerment in Hip Hop, and for Oakland/West Coast rap on a Worldwide level. I 1st truly met her as an artist at Rock the Bells in S.F! KDoe (RIP) was there with me! We ran into her backstage with CMG and we all hit it off quick because although they were rap legends, we quickly saw they were true humble fans of Hip Hop just like us, we were all just hangin’ out right by the stage, smokin’ with Method Man, hollering at Chuck D & Flavor Flav,talkin’ & takin’ flicks. The Roots, Wu Tang, Rage against the Machine all rocked it that night. It was sooo many stars back there and they showed us just as Much love as anyone else. Eventually got to make some music with Conscious Daughters (Special One wasn’t available to lay her verse at the time, so CMG held it down. You can download the track FREE on Soundcloud just look above this paragraph, its probably playing automatically now) !! It was a honor to connect with her (also dope to see the CD’s and another fav MC of mine “Fatlip” of Pharcyde at RTB’s after party hanging out having a good time,it just felt right. That day i was extra proud to be from the West, and even more specifically Oakland!! My prayers go out to Special One’s family and friends, as well as my friend CMG who has been there for me in many challenging situations!!
